What is Juvederm?

Juvederm is a natural dermal filler made of hyaluronic acid, which is an agent used to add volume to the face and improve the appearance of severe facial wrinkles. As you age, your facial tissue, including your skin cells and the hyaluronic acid they produce, starts to break down. When this happens, you’ll notice increased signs of aging in your face with wrinkles, smile lines, or folds that look drier and less full.

There are several products in the Juvederm line that target specific issues and achieve the most successful results.

How does Juvederm work?

Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in our facial tissue. It’s responsible for binding to water and holding it in your skin, making it plump and healthy-looking. but as we age, the hyaluronic acid in our skin can become less effective, creating dryness and wrinkles.

Juvederm injectable gel contains hyaluronic acid and delivers it directly to the skin cells, hydrating the skin by bringing water to the surface and restoring facial volume.

What can I expect from the Juvederm procedure?

Treatments are quick and simple.

As with most skin injection procedures, Juvederm treatments begin with the application of a local anesthetic. A fine needle is used to administer the dermal filler to the facial wrinkles, and there is a numbing agent in the hyaluronic acid-filled injectable gel to help keep treatment fairly comfortable.

Like other facial injection procedures, filler patients typically spend 15-30 minutes in treatment depending on the number of syringes.

The hyaluronic acid takes effect very quickly as the injectable gel begins to hydrate your cells. Often results are noticeable almost immediately

How long does recovery take?

There is no downtime to recover from Juvederm injections, meaning you can go on with your day as soon as you finish receiving your injectable fillers.

After your procedure, you should avoid too much sun exposure, strenuous activity, and alcohol for at least 24 hours.

How often should I get Juvederm touch-ups?

Whether or not you’ll need to touch up injections depends on the placement and severity of the problem area being treated.

Patients may need to return for touch-ups to their dermal fillers every 3-12 months.

Who is a good candidate for Juvederm?

Adults with volume loss, deep wrinkles and fine lines, or those who would like plumper lips, cheeks, or an enhanced facial appearance are fantastic candidates for Juvederm.

Juvederm is safe for all skin types and tones.

Who is not a good candidate for Juvederm?

You should not get Juvederm if you are pregnant, or if you suffer from multiple severe allergies or severe allergic reactions.

Is Juvederm better than Botox?

Juvederm is commonly used in conjunction with Botox for a more complete facial rejuvenation. Juvederm can even out your wrinkles and fine lines while Botox works on the muscles to relax them, creating a smooth and natural look.

What are the side effects of Juvederm?

The side effects of Juvederm are typically minor and quick to fade. Most common side effects present at the injection site; can include:

  • bruising
  • swelling
  • temporary redness/discoloration
  • tenderness
  • small bump/ firmness
