What is a Vampire Facelift?

A Vampire Facelift is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure, and an excellent alternative to cosmetic surgery, that promotes a more youthful appearance. It uses platelet-rich plasma from the patient’s own blood to reactivate stem cells, resulting in rejuvenating facial skin quality and skin tone.

How does the Vampire Facelift work?

A Vampire Facelift uses platelet-rich plasma (PRP) treatment to restore youthful volume and skin texture to your face by promoting tissue regeneration and better blood flow. Though some patients only need PRP.

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP), derived from red blood cells, contains growth factors that promote the body’s healing. When injected in other areas of the body, it will help cell turnover and the production of new blood vessels for improved blood flow. The growth factors in platelet-rich plasma activate stem cells, which leads to increased collagen production in the surrounding area of injection. The platelet-rich plasma is extracted from the patient’s own blood; re-injecting it helps promote the body’s natural healing process as it uses its own biological growth factors.

By adding platelet-rich plasma (with the attached growth factors) to your facial tissue, you can enjoy an all-around more youthful appearance; you get to experience an instantaneous boost in your skin’s volume and restoration of its texture, suppleness, and fullness.

This is how you achieve facial rejuvenation!

What is the Vampire Facelift procedure?

The Vampire Facelift procedure begins with a consultation to discuss the patient’s desired facial rejuvenation goals and treatment options.

The first step of treatment is the application of numbing cream to the face, followed by a blood draw–the patient’s blood is taken from their arm and processed in a lab, where it’s sent through a centrifuge to separate the platelet-rich plasma from the red blood cells.

While the treatment is called “vampire” because of its use of the patient’s own blood, during the centrifuge process, because the platelet-rich plasma is separated from the red blood cells its appearance is yellow, which is why it’s sometimes referred to as “liquid gold.”

When the platelet-rich plasma is ready and the numbing cream has taken effect, the doctor will begin with injections in the treatment areas discussed during the consultation.

The depth and order in which platelet-rich plasma is injected vary between the doctor’s techniques and patient needs.

The Vampire Facelift procedure typically takes less than an hour to complete.

What can I expect after my Vampire Facelift?

The Vampire Facelift does not require any downtime post-treatment, however immediately after your procedure, you are likely to notice a bit of redness and swelling.

It’s best to avoid touching your face for the first several hours, but you will be able to use ice packs and Tylenol to help relieve swelling and mild pain.

When will I notice the results of my Vampire Facelift?

Effects of your Vampire Facelift will typically be visible instantly, with most patients noticing a more youthful volume and texture to their plumped skin. Thanks to the platelet-rich plasma, after a few weeks they’ll also notice a fresh glow to their skin tone.

How long do Vampire Facelift results last?

The more youthful appearance achieved from a Vampire Facelift typically lasts about a year, however, some patients enjoy results for up to 18 months.

Results will vary amongst patients depending on your age, lifestyle, the severity of aging on your face, and the number of injections given during your treatment.

To maintain your Vampire Facial results, you’ll likely need to come in for touch-up treatments annually.

What are the side effects of a Vampire Facelift?

Side effects of a Vampire Facelift are usually mild and short-lived and can include

  • Swelling
  • Redness
  • Irritation
  • Itchiness

Who is a good candidate for a Vampire Facelift?

The benefits of a Vampire Facelift can be enjoyed by adults of any age who have noticed a decline in the volume and texture of their face.

The Vampire Facelift is an excellent way to extend the life of fillers (the addition of PRP helps them last longer), and it’s also a wonderful preventative treatment for those looking to stave off signs of aging.

What is a Vampire Facelift vs a Vampire Facial?

While it’s easy to confuse a Vampire Facelift with a Vampire Facial, the treatments are not synonymous.

Both procedures use the patient’s own blood and growth factors to stimulate stem cells and address blood vessels with poor blood flow, however, they use different techniques and have somewhat different targets.

Where a Vampire Facelift uses platelet-rich plasma injections that are injected into different areas of the face, a Vampire Facial employs microneedling before applying a topical layer of platelet-rich plasma as a mask.

The goal of a Vampire Facelift is to literally lift sagging skin as it also helps smooth wrinkles and contour the face. In a Vampire Facial, the focus is reducing the appearance of acne scars, large pores, and fine lines, and evening out skin tone.

If your main concern is improving your skin’s surface, the Vampire Facial is likely to serve you well. However, if you’re looking to improve your facial shape and contour, the Vampire Facelift is the more appropriate option.

What are the benefits of a Vampire Facelift?

  • The Vampire Facelift promotes a natural healing process
  • It restores blood vessels and blood flow for more youthful skin
  • Vampire Facelift is a non-surgical procedure, which means there’s no downtime for recovery.
